Mini and Daisy: The Family’s Stars of The National Dog Show

Each November, dog lovers from around the world tune into The National Dog Show Presented by Purina on Thanksgiving Day. The spectacular event takes place in Philadelphia, showcasing many of the best in the dog world, with over 190 breeds competing for the coveted title “Best in Show.” This year, I have a front-row seat. My summer internship with Vizion Group PR involves promoting the show and TV special on Thanksgiving Day. As we begin to prepare for the show, I can’t help but think of my family stars: Mini and Daisy, my grandma’s beloved dogs.

Watching The National Dog Show broadcast has become a cherished Thanksgiving tradition for my family. After the turkey is in the oven and the table is set, we gather in the living room to watch the NBC broadcast while fourteen-year-old Mini and six-year-old Daisy curl up at their bed below the TV.

While Mini and Daisy might not be purebred show dogs, they have the hearts of champions. Mini, being in her golden years, has always brought joy to my family. One of my favorite moments with Mini is when she curls up to nap with me. Her presence is very comforting and these simple, quiet moments make her a true champion in my eyes.

Daisy, despite her blindness, has a gentle presence that inspires. She navigates the world with grace and confidence, guided by her dog companion Mini. Daisy’s adaptability and unwavering trust is truly heartwarming.

My grandma’s love for Mini and Daisy goes far but her love for dogs does not stop there. Her compassion extends to every dog she meets and she has a mission to help those in need. Her home has become a temporary place for countless dogs, each with their own story and journey to finding their perfect forever home.

Fostering dogs is no small act, and my grandma does it with pride. She believes that every dog deserves great happiness and provides them with a safe, supportive environment while they wait for their lifelong family. From scared puppies to older dogs whose owners surrendered them, my grandma has welcomed them all with open arms.

Her dedication to fostering is truly inspiring, working tirelessly to care for each foster dog and ensuring they receive the attention, training and love they need. Many of the dogs she fosters come from difficult situations, but through her care they grow into happy, healthy pets ready for a new life.

The National Dog Show is a celebration of the great diversity and talent of many dogs. From flawlessly groomed Poodles to striking Great Danes, the show is a reminder of the deep bond we share with our furry friends and the joy they bring to us.

Soon, 15,000 people will visit the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA on November 16 and 17 for the experience of a lifetime. Tickets will be available starting in early June at https://nds.nationaldogshow.com/.

While Mini and Daisy may never strut in Philadelphia, they are the heart of my family, bringing us laughter, comfort and love daily. This year, as we watch The National Dog Show, we’ll cheer for our favorite breeds and marvel at the beauty and skill of the competing dogs. But I’ll recognize Mini and Daisy, the champions who may never got a blue ribbon but certainly are winners in my eyes.

Loved reading about Mini and Daisy and all the love that surrounds them. Also very sweet that your family watches the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day instead of a football game! I’m with you.

Thanks for this great story and to your grandmom for being a foster angel to dogs in need.

Dog Show on in the living room, football in the kitchen, Mini and Daisy in their bed by the TV as we wait for the Norwegian Elkhounds to parade. Who could ask for a better Thanksgiving Day with family and pets. Thanks for sharing our family tradition.
